Make the most of June’s 14+ hours of daylight on the beach! The sun doesn’t set until after 8:00 p.m. (the sunsets are gorgeous, by the way, as are the sunrises!), so there’s lots of time to enjoy all that the area has to offer. Enjoy the warm Gulf waters, the shorts-and-sandals-friendly temperatures, then enjoy a cool beverage on your private deck after a fun day of sand and surf.

Summer events and activities are abundant in June, from swimming to kayaking to beach bumming to art exhibits to sea turtle hatchling releases. Join in your favorite to-dos, relax on your balcony or enjoy a good book from a beach chair – the sand is just steps away!

For Nature Lovers

Don’t forget Dad! June 17-18 is Father’s Day Free Weekend at South Texas Botanical Gardens. Just say “It’s Fathers’ Day” and Dad gets in free Saturday & Sunday 9 am – 6 pm. Free admission is just for Dad – admission fees apply to the rest of the fam.

The baby Kemp’s Ridley Sea Turtles are almost ready to make their first journey from sandy nest to watery sea.  Throughout June, you can witness Padre Island National Seashore Sea Turtle Hatchling Releases – check the expected schedule (the critters hatch when THEY want to) and the guidelines to follow to witness this amazing force of nature!

Great Texas Coast Birding Trail has several “loops” near Corpus Christi with marked trails and conveniences such as boardwalks, parking pullouts, observation platforms, and landscaping to attract native wildlife at the Aransas Loop, the Mustang Island Loop and the Corpus Christi Bay Loop. These are easy drives with lots of birding opportunities along the way to allow you to get closer to Texas’s breathtaking birds.

For Water Lovers

If you come to the beach to enjoy the Beaches, you have lots of options! In addition to the gorgeous expanse of sand at your Gulfstream doorstep, there are a number of other beaches, each with its own personality. You’re sure to find a good match!

All summer – Padre Island National Seashore has more than sea turtles – much more! Paddle-lovers can try canoeing and kayaking on Laguna Madre with shallow waters and protected areas that are perfect for both beginner paddlers and the seasoned explorers.

For the full-on water park experience, spend a day slipping and sliding at Schlitterbahn Riverpark. There’s a torrent of water rides for all ages and thrill-comfort levels. Bring a picnic or enjoy the park’s food options – you’ll need fuel for this active day!

For Art and Music Lovers

Opening June 2 at the Art Museum of South Texas is the Outwin 2016: American Portraiture Today, being shown at only four US museums. Every three years, artists are juried and invited by the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery to celebrate excellence and innovation in portraiture. The exhibition features 43 artists and will be in Corpus Christi for a limited time

Immerse yourself in live music at the Old Concrete Amphitheater concerts! Ann Wilson rocks the house on June 3, and the Josh Abbott Band draws you in on June 17.

Graphic novels are among the fastest growing categories in contemporary publishing, and when you expose yourself to the art of storytelling through pictures, you’ll understand why. Experience BAM! It’s a Picture Book: The Art Behind Graphic Novels through at the Art Museum of South Texas through June 25. The exhibit features graphic novelists and illustrators who have had a major impact on the genre.

For Food Lovers

Pick up fresh, local ingredients to whip up into a delicious meal at the Downtown Farmers Market every Wednesday at the Art Center of Corpus Christi. In addition to local produce, eggs and meat, you’ll find locally-created breads, jams, honey art and live music.

Food Truck fans, you’ll want to be at North Bayfront Park on June 30 for Food Truck Fridays! Sample a variety of treats or pig out on your favorites in a festival atmosphere. Live music, too.

All Month Long
More reasons to come to the beach!
