Outwin Boochever Portrait Competition

It’s your last chance to see works selected from the Outwin Boochever Portrait Competition at the Art Museum of South Texas, one of just four museums selected by the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery to display these works. The national juried competition displays 43 portraits that embody excellence and innovation in this art form. The exhibit ends Sunday, September 10.

Digital Darkroom 

Exploring a new artform, Digital Darkroom at the Art Museum of South Texas begins Friday, September 22, and runs through December. 17 artists explore the intersection of art and technology. Organized by the Annenberg Foundation in Los Angeles, the works explore a variety of digital techniques that will introduce you to a new generation of artmaking. 

Arts Alive 2017 

Enjoy a lot of art in many mediums at Arts Alive 2017, the Labor Day Weekend (September 2-3) art fair sponsored by the Art Center of Corpus Christi. What better setting than the Corpus Christi Bayfront to immerse yourself in family-friendly, creative fun. In addition to art vendors and food trucks, experience art made with steam rollers, a flaming garbage can and molten aluminum. 

Beethoven Meets Broadway

Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through September 10, Fiddler on the Roof will transport you to another time and place thanks to the Aurora Arts Theatre’s production. The story of family, community and a changing world is told through songs that will have you humming for days.

In the Heights

Before there was Hamilton, Lin-Manuel Miranda wrote the music and lyrics for In the Heights, set in a changing community full of hopes, dreams and struggles. Harbor Playhouse presents this Tony Award winning musical Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through September 17.

World of Birds

The Gulf Coast is a haven for bird lovers, but what if you don’t know your robin from your cockatoo? Intro to the Exciting World of Birds at the South Texas Botanical Gardens on September 9 will give you some of the basics. Class time followed by a field trip will introduce you to some of the 450 known bird species in South Texas.

Conquer the Coast 

Experience the coast on two wheels – September 16 is Conquer the Coast, a cycling event with lots of options for riders who want to ride a little or a lot. Beginning in Corpus Christi’s cultural district, you can ride 10, 21 or 66 miles, viewing beautiful homes and bay views, to the gates of Naval Air Station Corpus Christi to an entire loop around Corpus Christi Bay. Pick your challenge – from family friendly pedaling to a vigorous cycling workout.
